The Guardian Project – Who’s Who?

Updated (1/14/11): The Boston Bruins Guardian has finally been revealed… it’s, err, special?

You may or may not have heard this new partnership between the NHL and Stan Lee called the Guardian Project. Looks like Lee is creating super hero versions of the NHL teams mascots.

The Guardian Project, which will encompass the creation of 30 Guardians (one to represent each NHL team) as a new series of superheroes, with a creative concept that organically and authentically incorporates various NHL elements but is not set in the world of hockey.

The dork in us is kinda excited to see what comes of this. The hockey fans in us are scratching our heads, wondering what the hell is going to come of  this. We won’t know until 1-30-11 when it’s debuted at the All Star game.

With an initial plan to reach tween boys, GME hopes to bring a new audience to the NHL, while engaging the existing, established hockey fan base through a compelling tale of good vs. evil.

Good vs. Evil… We suppose that depends on which hero you like. Love the Bruins? Habs are Evil. Love the Pens? The Flyers are evil. Etc. Really, though, that’s probably not what they’re going for.

We decided to try to figure out who is who in this thing. Of course, you can’t tell from the website or the above pic — it’s way too dark. But thanks to the magic of Photoshop we’ve boosted the brightness and contrast.

After the jump, we give you our take on Who’s Who in the Guardian Project…

OK. Sooooo, some of these are near impossible, even with the brightness/contrast boost.

We’re pretty sure Mr. Freeze is actually the Aves but it’s more fun this way. Also, we were torn on the Ghost Rider ripoff. Is it the Red Wings (they’re logo being a Wheel n’ All) or is the Rangers (the logo on the back of the ‘cycle looks like the Rangers). We decided with Rangers and made the guy above him Red Wings. *shrugs*

No f-ing clue who the “Not the Flames?” guy is in the left corner.

We definitely know this is a Bruin… even though it’s kinda werewolf like. That’s def’ a spoked-B on his chest.

We still love The Bear the best.

Also love the NHL codpiece this unknown fella is wearings:

Who we’re missing/unsure: Ducks, Habs, Leafs, Blue Jackets, Blues, Capitals.

We can’t find the Ducks anywhere. How can we not find a freakin’ duck!? Unless it’s that big guy above the Kings (I don’t see a beak) But it’s probably for the best. We all remember the last time the Ducks tried to be super heroes:

Anyways, we await patiently and inquisitively to see what comes from all this.
