IT’S HERE! IT IS HERE!
After the NHL teased us, probably called us names and gave us horrible votes on Tinder – the Boston Bruins are finally starting the playoffs.
I feel like it’s been forever since the Bruins last played. The playoffs started on Wednesday and the Bruins start on fucking Friday. But hey, it doesn’t fucking matter. The playoffs finally start in Boston and I can’t fucking wait. I am so fired up right now you’d think my name was Pete Carroll.
And now it is finally here. It is finally game time. Before we start let’s all circle up and pray.
So we know the track record against the Red Wings. Here’s the thing – two of those losses came in the early months of the season. What does that actually mean now? No Zetterberg, No Ericsson, a hurting Datsyuk and a shakey Jimmy Howard. The last time these two teams played?
The Bruins absolutely dominated the Red Wings and lost because of careless and senseless turnovers. Mistakes are something you can limit. When you outplay a team and lose it is because you fucked up, not because they beat you. Earlier in the season Detroit beat you – but so many different things have happened between now and then? The emergence of Carl Soderberg, the awakening of Dougie Hamilton, the Patrice Bergeron Offensive Experience featuring Brad Marchand.
On the other side? I already mentioned Zetterberg and Ericsson. I already mentioned that Jimmy Howard hasn’t had a very Jimmy Howard-like season. You can also bank on Niklas Kronwall getting suspended for at least a game.
And you can probably bank on Joe Louis Arena leaking at some point.
I mean I can talk about stats if you want but in Game 1 of the NHL playoffs stats don’t mean shit. Look at the Minnesota/Colorado game. You would expect Colorado to blow Minnesota out, given that they were the #2 seed in the West. Instead Minnesota goes up 4-2 and Colorado has to scratch and claw back to win the game in overtime.
I’ll do stats later.
Today is about hockey.
Today is about the playoffs.
